Jim Jackson from TFS Express Logistics Ltd, shares his thoughts with Mark Hurst, on choosing Asset Go with Hurst Transport Services

Tell us a bit about your Company and operation?
We are a dedicated same day delivery operation for anything from a small van to an 18t Vehicle. 90% of the time reacting to ad hoc bookings.
Tell us what your compliance system looked like before you implemented AssetGo?
We had a self-built, manually inputted overview spreadsheet & document folders as a backup reference. This required constantly checking that documents had not expired. Defects were reported by the drivers over the phone or by email and this was not a very reliable way of managing the fleet.
What issues/concerns did you as an operator have with your previous system before AssetGo?
Manual entry was unavoidable so the only means of updating our ever-changing dataset. Basically, concerns were around incorrect entries or even something being forgotten to be entered at all.
What was the company’s stance on digitalisation prior to AssetGo?
Intended to digitalise a few months before finding AssetGo. Came at a good time for us.
What were the top 3 reasons for you wanting to make a move to digitalisation?
Accuracy of data
To reduce the chance of a vehicle fault not being reported or worse
Being forgotten once reported.
What were the top 3 reasons previously stopping you moving to digitalisation?
Not system related, was just time based – we saw digitisation as inevitable.
How would you describe the balance between cost of the new system and the improvement it has made (if any)?
It’s a no brainer really, the piece of mind knowing at a glance what defects we have with the fleet is worth the cost on its own. The guys find it easy to report too.
What benefits as the system given you as a Director?
Really to reiterate the above having visibility of the status of the Fleet remotely is very helpful.
What setbacks or stumbling blocks did you encounter during implementation and running the system?
Just around navigating the software but a quick phone call solved all issues.
How has it changed the compliance position within the operation?
I am much more confident that we are compliant most of the time now and have an audit of the whole process.
